École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay learned with great sadness of the death of Bernard Multon, which occurred on January 23, 2026.
Academic career
A student of the 1979 cohort of the École normale supérieure, holder of the agrégation in electrical engineering and a doctorate in physical sciences, he began his career as a senior lecturer at the ENS Cachan before joining the ENS Rennes, where he served as a university professor until 2018. There, he played a structuring role, notably contributing to the creation and development of the Mechatronics department, and actively participated in the work of the SATIE laboratory.
Scientific contributions and commitments
A recognized researcher in energy conversion and renewable energies, he was also engaged in the public debate on the energy transition, in particular within the association NégaWatt. His work informed scientific and societal reflections on sustainable energy pathways.
Those who worked alongside him remember a demanding and passionate teacher, deeply committed to the transmission of knowledge, attentive to his students as well as to his colleagues. École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay extends its most sincere thoughts to his family, his loved ones, and to the entire academic community affected by his passing.
