Is teaching still an attractive profession?
Perspectives from an expert, a journalist, and a representative of both traditional and digital education
The teaching profession is experiencing an unprecedented crisis in attractiveness:
3,000 unfilled positions in 2023, 4,000 in 2022, and only 4 candidates per competitive exam post, compared to 12 in the 2000s.
This trend represents a medium-term threat to the renewal of the teaching workforce, essential to the sustainability of public education.
Moreover, as with other civil service professions, the lack of selectivity at entry diminishes the perceived value of the profession.
By impacting the relationship between society and civil servants or applicants, this dynamic also threatens the well-being of civil servants currently in service.
How can we restore the prestige of this essential profession?
Which levers should be activated to attract and retain talent?
