Édouard Bonnet – Recipient of the 2025 Lovelace-Babbage Prize of the Académie des sciences
We are pleased to congratulate Édouard Bonnet, alumnus of the Department of Computer Science (DER Informatique, class of 2008), for his distinction as the recipient of the Lovelace-Babbage Prize from the Académie des sciences, awarded in partnership with the Société informatique de France during the 2025 annual ceremony.
This prize honors scientists, both women and men, whose research spans all areas of computer science, from the most theoretical to the most applied. It is awarded each year to a pair of laureates, reflecting the diversity and excellence of computer science research in France.
An ENS alumnus with an outstanding scientific career
After his training at DER Informatique, Édouard Bonnet pursued a scientific path marked by conceptual depth and originality in his contributions. Following a PhD defended at Université Paris-Dauphine in 2014 and several postdoctoral stays abroad, he joined the CNRS, where he is currently a research officer in graph theory at the Laboratoire de l’informatique du parallélisme (LIP).
Major contributions in graph theory
Graph theory is a fundamental pillar of computer science, enabling the modeling and analysis of complex networks—whether social networks, communication systems, transportation, or biological interactions. In this field, Édouard Bonnet’s work stands out for its ability to both structure the understanding of graph families and provide efficient algorithmic tools for solving classical problems.
National and scientific recognition
The Lovelace-Babbage Prize adds to other distinctions already received by Édouard Bonnet, including the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2023, which already recognized the impact of his contributions to algorithmic graph theory.
This prestigious recognition reflects not only the reach of Édouard Bonnet’s work but also the excellence of the training and scientific community stemming from DER Informatique at École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay.
