Biology: one evening, different paths, the same attachment
A tradition dear to the hearts of alumni
“When the biology department plays the conviviality card…”: this expression takes on its full meaning during the traditional alumni evening organized by the biology teaching and research department (DER) of the School. Now an unmissable event, this intergenerational gathering brings together alumni, normaliennes and normaliens every year, in a spirit of exchange and transmission.
A meeting for students and graduates
“If you are here tonight, it’s proof that the School marked an important stage in your life as a young adult. You probably had encounters at the School that left a mark on your life: scientific questions, professors, classmates who became friends… or even your soulmate.” With these words, Anne Peyroche, Vice President for Strategy and Resources at ENS Paris-Saclay — and also a former student of the department — opened the evening. Alongside her, Pascale Rialland, Director of the Biology DER, also spoke to highlight the richness of these bonds woven between generations.
One School, many paths, one same spirit
Time has passed, and for many, ENS Paris-Saclay is no longer quite the same School they once knew. Since 2020, it has been located in the heart of the Paris-Saclay plateau, in a building designed to foster the entanglement of education and research. During the evening, alumni were able to (re)discover these new spaces: from the garden to the Grand Auditorium Alain Aspect, from the Research Stage to the Germaine Tillion Atrium, ending at the 4th floor, home to the Biology DER and the Laboratory of Biology and Applied Pharmacology (LBPA). “A visit punctuated with anecdotes, shared memories, and knowing smiles,” says Valérie Perix-Delacroix, PRAG teacher at the School and coordinator of the M2 FESup Life Sciences program.
When generations meet
Another highlight: the presentation of the alumni in attendance, called up one by one with their name, surname, and current position. A simple and effective way to create real connections with today’s normaliennes and normaliens. A true bridge between generations, faithful to the ENS spirit.
An evening in the image of the department
In a warm and generous atmosphere — as the biology department does so well — conviviality was at the heart of the event. Special mention goes to the second edition of the Pastry Olympics, which brought a sweet and creative touch to the evening. A wonderful way to strengthen bonds through shared flavors.
The normalien network: a living community
More than just an event, this evening reflects the vitality of the alumni network and their deep attachment to the School. The recent creation of a dedicated alumni platform now allows everyone to stay connected: to offer an internship, share their career path, or mentor a student.
