A Memorable Reunion: The Physics Class of 2004 Reconnects at ENS Paris-Saclay
On the afternoon of Friday, October 18, 2024, over 20 alumni from the 2004 physics cohort of ENS Paris-Saclay, hailing from across France and even abroad, gathered to explore the School's new facilities.
The reunion kicked off in the Dorothy Hodgkin amphitheater, where Philippe Maître, Vice President of Research, and Jean-Sébastien Lauret, Director of the Physics Department of Teaching and Research (DER), welcomed the group. They shared updates on the significant transformations at both the School and the department since its days as ENS Cachan. The session continued with an engaging presentation by Léa Lachaud, a physics professor, on the innovative ARTeQ (Advanced Research in Quantitative Technologies) program. These discussions were enthusiastically received by both alumni and staff.
“I’m convinced that you’ll love this building, which embodies the ENS you hold dear,” Philippe Maître concluded with warmth.
The alumni were then invited to revisit the hands-on nature of physics research, engaging in fascinating experiments on two-photon interference, Rydberg atoms, rubidium spectroscopy, NV centers, and optical tweezers. This immersive experience offered a glimpse into the cutting-edge scientific advancements of the department and rekindled their passion for discovery.
The reunion wrapped up with a convivial gathering between alumni and current physics students. It was a meaningful opportunity to share stories, exchange ideas, and relive the spirit of their time at ENS Paris-Saclay, marking the 20th anniversary with both nostalgia and inspiration.
