Maxime Breden, Winner of the 2024 Shiing-Shen Chern Young Faculty Awards
Former doctoral student of ENS Paris-Saclay and Université Laval in Quebec, agrégé in mathematics, Maxime Breden is now an Assistant Professor at École Polytechnique and a member of CMAP (Center of Applied Mathematics).
From 2014 to 2017 during his thesis, he delved into partial differential equations and dynamical systems, applying them to fascinating problems from physics and biology. Then, he headed to the Dynamical Systems unit at the Technical University of Munich for two years of academic adventures!
On June 6, 2024, Maxime received the prestigious Shiing-Shen Chern Young Faculty Award. Thanks to this award, he will benefit from a three-year scientific excellence grant and a generous budget to develop his research projects in mathematics. With this prize, Maxime aims to demonstrate the presence of chaos in the Navier-Stokes equations, which are essential for describing fluid motion.
Created in 2023, the Shiing-Shen Chern Young Faculty Award targets young talents in mathematics at École Polytechnique, supporting the awardees in their promising research projects.
